Al is horrified to discover Gwen has been booked as a locum at the Mill. Things get worse when he pretends they’re meeting for the first time but she humiliates him by announcing they actually had a date the other day. Later Gwen suggests they meet for a ‘non-date’ drink after work. Al agrees it would be a good way to put any bad feeling behind them. As Gwen is leaving the Mill she is left reeling when she overhears a conversation between Valerie and Emma and learns about Al’s ‘pity dating’. She heads to the Icon and dishes out some home truths to an unsuspecting Al.

Elsewhere, Daniel is furious when Tom turns up to try and persuade Zara to testify against the gang. Daniel gives him his marching orders. Later Tom tries again but Zara insists Daniel is right – she isn’t putting her family in more danger. A couple of the gang members throw firecrackers and dead birds at the house – Daniel goes out and chases them – they scuffle and one of them stabs him.

Doctors, Thursday at 1.45pm on BBC One.
