BBC One daytime is to broadcast a series which aims to celebrate the positive impact local people can make in their own communities.

“This series will inspire communities around the UK to consider what they could achieve for themselves by bringing local people together. I can’t wait to see the results.” – Dan McGolpin, Controller Programming and Daytime

Presented by Kevin Duala, will give passionate local people the chance to pitch for funds to use towards positive projects that will benefit their community.

Each episode will visit a different town, village or district where individuals or groups who are keen to start improving their local communities pitch their ideas, community group projects and social enterprises to a room full of locals for a cash fund, that the community themselves have contributed to. Once they’ve heard all the pitches, the audience cast their votes.

The pitch with the most support will be awarded the funds that will allow them to start work on their project immediately – with follow ups a few weeks later to check in on progress.

From schemes to help the elderly get to grips with life online to beach clean up projects; from lifesaving training in how to give first aid to heart attack victims to craft skills classes that help the unemployed back to work, every project is backed by a passionate local champion and has the potential to leave a lasting legacy for the community.

The series will air across five episodes at a date yet to be set by the beeb.

“This series is a feel good show that captures the extraordinary energy of ordinary people around the UK who want to invest in their own communities. It demonstrates the passion people have for where they live and the change they can bring about by coming together” – Carla-Maria Lawson, BBC Commissioning Editor Daytime and Peak
