Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has quit the ITV soap.
The actress has chosen to leave her role as bubbly Eva Price in the saga to pursue other acting roles, according to The Sun. The paper’s online presence adds that Tyldesley exit storyline will be screened next year.
“Coronation Street has been a dream job for me which is why this was such a difficult decision to leave. Eva has been such fun to play over the last seven years, and who knows, one day she might storm the cobbles of Weatherfield again. In the meantime I’m excited about the future, new acting projects, and spending time with my family.” – Catherine Tyldesley
Catherine joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2011 alongside Michelle Collins as the much-mocked Stella, Eva’s mum and actor John Michie as Stella’s boyfriend Karl, both of whom have now departed the saga.
Eva has been central to numerous storylines during Tyldesley’s time on the cobbles including the recent scenes that saw her plot revenge on fiancé Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) after discovering he had been unfaithful to her with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon). Eva planned to humiliate Aidan at their wedding but changed her mind on the day, however her change of heart was thwarted by Maria, leading to the two love rivals battling it out in a fountain Dynasty-and-Crossroads style.
“We can confirm that Cath Tyldesley will leave Coronation Street at the end of her current contract next year after seven years in the show. Cath’s portrayal of Eva Price has made her a firm favourite amongst fans and she will be missed. The producers and writers are currently working on her exit storyline which be on screen in early summer.” – Coronation Street spokesperson
Catherine has also had roles in Holby City, The Street, and fellow ITV soap Emmerdale. It was recently announced that Shayne Ward is also leaving Coronation Street.
