Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has resigned as director of News International.

Tonight, it has been confirmed that Rupert Murdoch has resigned as director of a number of companies which oversee some of the UK’s biggest newspapers including The Sun and The Times.

An internal memo was sent to staff across News International making them aware of the changes.

Chief Executive Tom Mockridge said: “He remains fully committed to our business as chairman of what will become the largest newspaper and digital group in the world.”

The troubled boss has faced pressure from investors since the phone-hacking scandal last year engulfed News of the World.

Last month News Corporation, of which Rupert Murdoch presides over, confirmed that it will be splitting its operation in two. The two companies will see his titles come under either media/entertainment and publishing.  Murdoch will be chairman of both companies and CEO of the media/entertainment branch.
