STV have confirmed that the Managing Director of STV Productions is to leave the position next month.

“As we embark on a new growth strategy for the business, the time is right for fresh creative leadership. Alan’s legacy is an STV Productions that is very well placed to meet the surge in demand for Nations and Regions programming, with a highly talented and capable team and a healthy pipeline, including two new drama commissions for BBC One. He leaves with all our thanks for everything he has accomplished and our very best wishes for continued success in the future. A process to appoint a successor to Alan will now commence.” – Simon Pitts, Chief Executive Officer, STV Group plc

The Glasgow based company confirmed today (April 12th) that Alan Clements, Managing Director, STV Productions, will leave the company in early May after a decade with the Scottish creative. Alan was appointed Director of Content in 2008 and since then he has transformed the business into a multi-genre production company supplying all the major UK networks and international customers.

STV Productions has a track record of producing quality returnable drama series including Taggart and Rebus with ambitions to build on this reputation. In the last five years, it has produced Fast Freddie and The Poison Tree, both for ITV. It currently has a number of script commissions from the BBC and ITV including four-part thriller for BBC One, The Victim.

STV as a broadcaster operate two Channel 3 – formerly Independent Television – franchises, with STV North and STV Central transmitting across Scotland. STV Central went to air in 1957 as Scottish Television and STV North followed in 1961 as Grampian Television. The broadcaster has expanded in the past three years with ‘Local TV’ services transmitting as STV2.

“I am sad to be leaving the great team at STV Productions but delighted I leave the company in such good shape. Entertainment, led by audience favourite Catchphrase, is booming. Factual continues to perform brilliantly, from the juggernaut of Antiques Road Trip to the impact of Ross Kemp in Barlinnie. And the drama is back with The Victim currently filming and Elizabeth Is Missing commissioned. I’m so proud of the fact that STV Productions will be the biggest indie in Scotland in 2018 and I wish all who work there all the very best for the future.” – Alan Clements, Managing Director, STV Productions
