Netflix have revealed details on their very first series from the Netherlands.
Filming of Ares, the first Dutch original series, has begun in Amsterdam, the streaming company has announced.
The series stars Jade Olieberg, Tobias Kersloot, Lisa Smit, Robin Boissevain and Frieda Barnhard and has an extended cast of Golden Calf winner Rifka Lodeizen, Roos Dickmann, Jip van den Dool, Steef de Bot, Janni Goslinga, Dennis Rudge, Minne Koole, Jennifer Welts, and Florence Vos Weeda.
Launching on Netflix this year, the eight episode psychological horror series enters the world of a secret student society in the heart of Amsterdam where best friends Rosa (Olieberg) and Jacob (Kersloot) surrender to a world of wealth and power but soon realise that they have entered a demonic place, built on secrets from The Netherlands’ past.
Ares was created by Pieter Kuijpers, who produces alongside Iris Otten, and Sander van Meurs. Giancarlo Sanchez and Michiel ten Horn will fulfil director duties with script development overseen by Michael Leendertse for production company Pupkin. The series is written by Winchester McFly and a team including Leendertse, Thomas van der Ree, Joost Reijmers, Matthijs Bockting, Pieter van den Berg, and Sarah Offringa.
