Janine - EastEnders, Charlie BrooksEastEnders star Charlie Brooks is launching her own performing arts school that aims to “teach, inspire and build confidence” in aspiring young actors.

The actress – who has played Walford’s Janine Butcher on and off since 1999 – is teaming up with her friend Mark Jermin to open the Esher Stage School in Surrey.

Speaking to Get Surrey about the project, Brooks reflected on her own childhood aspirations to become an actress:

As a child I remember so clearly wanting to fulfil my dream of becoming a successful actress and pleading with my parents to go to stage school.

I was lucky enough to be given that opportunity and I want other young people to have that chance too.

Brooks’ 8 year old daughter Kiki will be a pupil at the school, which the Albert Square favourite will launch on 8th March alongside a team of expert teachers.

Brooks announced her decision to leave EastEnders and the role of Janine in October last year.

On Christmas Day, Janine made an unsuccessful attempt to flee the Square and was arrested by Police for the murder of her husband Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd).

In scenes to be aired next Monday, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) comes face to face with the incarcerated widow as part of her quest to help Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner). There’s a clear tension between Kat and Janine which is heightened when Janine makes a risky ultimatum…

EastEnders airs Monday (8.00pm), Tuesday (7.30pm), Thursday (7.30pm) and Friday (8.00pm) on BBC One.
