Former pop star Jason Donovan has been signed up to voice the character of Pops for new CBeebies animated comedy series Boj.
Donovan, who is best known for playing Scott Robinson in Australian soap Neighbours, will take on the role of Pops, a Bilby from the Australian outback. Pops is the father to the main character Boj, who is voiced by nine-year-old Australian actor Ziggy Badans.
The Boj family, comprising of Mimi, Pops and Boj, are said to the live a ‘joyful back-to-basics lifestyle’ and will charm both children and adults. Donovan says that he will enjoy watching Boj with his daughter Molly before she starts school.
Donovan said: “It’s a pleasure to be involved in such a well-crafted project. I’m interested in great characters, great stories, great songs and Boj has all those things and more.”
He added: “As a good Aussie dad Pops is very close to my heart and I’m looking forward to that special time before my daughter Molly starts school when we’ll enjoy watching Boj together.”
Commissioned by controller of CBeebies, Kay Benbow, Boj is expected to begin airing in late spring. Produced by Pesky Productions for CBeebies, the series will comprise of 52, 11 minute episodes.
