Jean Alexander’s brother Kenneth Hodgkinson has confirmed that the actress has left hospital following her recent health scare.
Earlier this week the 88-year-old, who is best known for her roles in Coronation Street and Last Of The Summer Wine, was rushed to hospital after an emergency call to her home in Merseyside.
Speaking to The Mirror, Hodgkinson has confirmed that the actress is now out of hospital and is staying at a rehabilitation unit where she is “getting on very well” following the incident.
“She [Jean] is very grateful for all the interest shown by the public in her. It is very kind of people to still be interested in her.
“She was taken in hospital on Monday. She did not feel too well in the morning. She was a little bit shaky so she was taken in and they tried to assess her to see what was the matter.
“We don’t think it is serious and she is getting on very well.” – Hodgkinson
Alexander played busybody Hilda Ogden, often to comic effect, in Coronation Street for more than twenty years between 1964-1987, the character becoming one of the saga’s most iconic creations with her trademark curlers and headscarf.
The shrill-voiced gossip and long-suffering hubby Stan (Bernard Youens) were firm favourites with fans of the long-running ITV serial. However, in recent years Alexander has admitted to no longer keeping up with the goings on on the cobbles, accusing the show of focusing too much on sex in a number of interviews.
After departing the ITV soap, the actress made a number of guest appearances in Last Of The Summer Wine as Auntie Wainwright before becoming a regular in the beeb comedy series from 1992 until its final outing in 2010.
