ATV In Europe: Milan Part 2

Did I mention it’s very hot in Milan, or Milano as the locals call it. We pretty much had the fan on all night and were reluctant to leave the hostel for the heat outside. But after having breakfast and applying copious amounts of sun cream and insect repellent stuff we ventured out.

Did I mention it’s very hot in Milan, or Milano as the locals call it. We pretty much had the fan on all night and were reluctant to leave the hostel for the heat outside. But after having breakfast and applying copious amounts of sun cream and insect repellent stuff we ventured out.

Right outside the hostel was a tram stop – just an piece of pavement really in the middle of the road – which we took advantage off. Taking a tram back into the centre of Milan to find a sighting seeing tour of Milan – which was actually very easy. We got off our tram just past the huge and beautiful Duomo of Milan [Italian for Cathedral] where there just happened to be a tour bus waiting for us – for a rather reasonable price too.

So we hopped on board and plugged in our earphones, as it was a audio tour, and looked at the various sights Milan had to offer. When we decided to go to Milan when booking our tour we didn’t really know what was in Milan – bar fashion and football. It was just somewhere both of us thought would be cool to visit simply because it’s Milan. When we arrived we thought “what the hell are we going to find to do here?”. As it happened a hell of a lot as the tour took us to lots of different spots across the city.

Outside the castle in Milan we got off the tour bus for something to eat and then we took tram out to the football stadium – as my travelling companion is something of a football fan. I wasn’t protesting however, as it’s another sight of Milan to tick off. We joined a tour around the stadium which was quite interesting apart from the fact the pitch was covered for a music concert. The tour even took us to the changing rooms for A.C Milan and Inter Milan – which proved popular with our fellow tourists on the tour.

After the stadium we returned to the Castle and had the best ice cream in the world while waiting to pick up the tour bus again. Great tasting ice cream for only One Euro for two big scoops – and this is Milan. But then Milan isn’t as expensive as we feared, at least not the places in Milan we had been. If we had jumped off the tour bus in the fashion district, which we passed through, I imagine yes things would have been pretty dam expensive.

We rejoined the tour bus for the remainder of our tour and then returned to the hostel to cool down – did I mention it’s very hot in Milan? Then we returned to the nice Italian restaurant from the previous night where we had – Pizza.

Later that night in our room we were watching the music channels on the television set we had. Most of the music was English pop bar a few very bizarre European ones. The most popular act in Milan at the moment, judging by how often her videos were being played on the channels – Lilly Allen. We couldn’t escape her. Nearly everywhere we went one of her songs was playing – and they are the kind of songs that get stuck in your head all day.
