BBC Sport launches Facebook viewing app

BBC Sport has teamed up with Facebook to launch an application for users to watch live sporting events.

The Facebook application will give users a chance to interact with fellow users while watching in what the BBC hope will deliver a “rich social viewing experience”.

The app went live today as coverage of the Wimbledon tennis championships continue. It will give Facebook users the chance to watch different streams, like what they are watching and share instantly with friends. A live chat function will be added for the Olympics which begin next month.

“It’s a core part of the BBC’s mission to bring our quality content to audiences wherever they are, so I’m very excited to be able to offer sport fans on Facebook a really distinctive live streaming experience.” – Phil Fearnley, General Manager BBC News & Knowledge

The BBC will be launching 24 HD live streams in July for the London 2012 Olympics. A number of streams will be available on the Facebook app once the games kick-off.
