Beasts, ATVCreator of some of the most outstanding television plays made in the last fifty years – including Quatermass – Nigel Kneale created, in Beasts for ATV, an anthology of six plays designed to showcase the breadth of his fertile imagination.

Laden with suspense, drama and a thick vein of black humour, each play was a variation on the theme of civilised man in conflict with the primal, animal side of existence. This malevolent and menacing thread runs through all six terrifying stories, which feature outstanding performances from actors such as Martin Shaw of Judge John Deed fame, Simon MacCorkindale later to star in Casualty and Michael Sheard best remembered for his Grange Hill role.

There is also a young Pauline Quirke of Birds of a Feather fame within an episode. Not seen since its original transmission and never previously released in any format, Beasts will appeal to all lovers of quality drama and horror.

Special Features

Murrain – A single play by Kneale from 1975, written in the same vein as Beasts. There is also a photo gallery, some of the scripts in PDF form, the original ATV Brochure in PDF as well as a special commemorative booklet written by Andy Murray.
