UK digital station CBS Drama has acquired the rights to repeat Footballers’ Wives and Bad Girls. The two dramas’ were produced for ITV by Shed Media and ran respectively for five seasons and eight seasons. Although the two dramas were initially separate, with actors having roles in both shows, the two later crossed over during the sixth season of Bad Girls. The crossover involved the lead character of Footballers’ Wives Tanya Turner [Zoe Lucker] sent to Larkhall prison on drug charges. Zoe Lucker appeared in three episodes of Bad Girls prompting rumours of further crossovers between the two dramas – which never happened – and even cross others with other ITV dramas such as The Bill.
CBS Drama has picked up all five seasons of Footballers Wives and will begin repeating it from the end of the month. The series was a “glossy” and “camp” take on the world of ‘WAGS’ and was described as a British version of Dynasty. Appearing in the drama alongside Zoe Lucker across its five year run were Gary Lucy, Gillian Taylforth, Laila Rouass, Alison Newman, Jessie Birdshall and Joan Collins. Bad Girls ran for eight seasons and was initially considered to be a gritty drama before losing the plot somewhat taking inspiration from Australian series Prisoner Cell Block H. Amongst the cast members of Bad Girls over the years were Linda Henry, Helen Fraser, Debra Stephenson, Victoria Alcock, Claire King, Kika Mirylees and Stephanie Beacham.
