The annual charity telethon, Children in Need, has beaten last year’s record by more than £8 million.
The annual BBC charity event aired last night on BBC One with usual host Terry Wogan joined by Alesha Dixon, Fearne Cotton and Tess Daly. The telethon raises money each year for UK charities and features celebrities and ordinary people raising money in various ways – such as fun runs, dress up days and other such money raising events.
This year’s telethon once again saw a preview of the Doctor Who Christmas Special as well as the cast of EastEnders paying tribute to Queen. The BBC newsreaders, which included Sophie Raworth and Sian Williams, once again took to the stage were they were joined by Angela Rippon. Other guests throughout the night included Susan Boyle, One Direction, Westlife and the cast of Wizard of Oz.
The on-night total was £26,332,334 which is a staggering £8 million more than last year’s on-night total.
