Terra NovaFox has axed its expensive time-travel drama Terra Nova after just one season.

Fox has confirmed that Terra Nova will NOT be back for a second series after all. The broadcaster had delayed making a decision over the show’s future until this year with the announcement expected in February. The drama starred Shelley Conn and Jason O’Mara as part of a group of colonists from the near-future who travel back in time to a colony established in the Cretaceous period.

Terra Nova reportedly cost $4 million per episode to produce making it one of the most expensive shows on television. Its ratings began modestly and trailed off towards the end of the first series. However, despite the fall there was hope from fans that Terra Nova would return because of the disappointing performance of other Fox shows such as Alcatraz. The big and continued drop in ratings for J.J Abram’s Alcatraz, and the news that House was ending, were seen as signs that Terra Nova had a chance for renewal.

However, it may not be the end of the road for Terra Nova just yet. Entertainment Weekly report that 20th Century Fox TV, the studio behind the series, will try and see if another network is interested in picking it up.
