Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney and several other high profile figures who are to launch legal proceedings against News Group Newspapers (NGN).
NGN, which is the trading name operated by newspaper publisher News International, has had 46 new phone-hacking allegations made against them. Most date back to News Of The World which was closed in the wake of the scandal last year.
At the High Court in London today it was revealed that 46 new claims had been launched. Former England rugby union player Matt Dawson, Sir John Major’s former daughter-in-law Emma Noble and UKIP party leader Nigel Farage were some of the names mentioned today. Many other have decided to remain anonymous.
It is thought that many, as in previous cases, will settle out of court with News International. However a trial date of February 2013 has been set.
