The next season of Glee will go ‘back to basics’ with fewer tribute episodes and the possiblity of a spin-off according to Fox’s Kevin Reilly.
You may be just a little confused as to what the future holds for Glee – the smash hit Fox series. First it was announced that Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith would be leaving Glee at the end of its third season when their respective characters graduate. Showrunner Ryan Murphy revealed the news and said the trio would not be in the shows fourth season. Then producer Brad Falchuck said, at the Comic Con panel for Glee, that wasn’t the case at all and all three would remain with the show! Confusing stuff.
Well Fox president Kevin Reilly has addressed those conflicting statements and reports of clashes behind-the scenes. “This show is such an undertaking. As you well know there are many successful shows that have genuine controversy and fighting. That’s not the case with this show. Ryan Murphy and his group of associates do a phenomenal job. In the middle of Ryan’s creativity this got out… this was a two-day issue that took on a bigger life. These guys get along incredibly well.” – Kevin Reilly quoted on Entertainment Weekly .
Reilly also addressed those persistent rumours of a spin-off from Glee – which would hardly be too surprising if it did happen as the series is a big hit and every show seems to get a spin-off these days. Well Reilly has stated the spin-off isn’t happening yet but they will be revisiting the idea later in the third season. “The spin-off was in the wind. We haven’t said we’re not doing it. We talked about it last season. Ryan did talk to all the actors about it. Ryan himself has said he regrets he talked about it. The spin-off will stay in the wind. We collectively decided to revisit it in the back half of the season… I don’t even know what it would be.”
As for the forthcoming third season what can fans expect? “The season feels so focused this year. It’s a very back to basics year. There’s not going to be any guest stars or tributes. There will be a graduation at the end and three will graduate. There will be surprises about how that will play out.”
In the UK season three of Glee will air on Sky after the broadcaster acquired the rights from E4 where it previously aired.
