ITV has confirmed to ATV Today that it has not ordered a second series of Identity; the police drama starring Keeley Hawes and Aidan Gillen. The six part series aired over the Summer and followed a special police unit set up to tackle identity theft. Identity opened to a strong 6.4 million viewers but subsequent episodes saw a sharp fall in ratings with it ending with just over 4 million viewers.
ITV has now confirmed to ATV Today that it has not renewed Identity for a second series. However, the remake rights for the series have been sold to ABC in America who are currently developing their own version. Starring alongside Keeley Hawes and Aidan Gillen in the series were Holly Aird, Eyles Gabel and Shaun Parkes. The series was created by Ed Whitmore who wrote four of the six episodes. Ed Whitmore had written extensively within the crime genre penning 16 episodes of Waking the Dead, 4 episodes of Silent Witness, adapting He Kills Coppers for ITV in 2008 and also four episodes of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.
