ITV is hoping to secure Jonathan Ross for a brand new chat-show on the broadcaster which would air either on a Friday evening or possibly on a Saturday after The X Factor. It’s understood that Ross is likely to sign a non exclusive deal with ITV for his chat-show which would allow him to work for other broadcasters as well as for ITV. The non exclusive deal would mean Ross would be free to host The British Comedy Awards on their new home of Channel Four – after twenty years on ITV.

It’s likely the format of Ross’ current chat-show, Friday Night With, would be revamped slightly for its new home on ITV – if it does indeed move. Ross announced in January that he would be leaving the corporation in July when his contract ran out. The news followed several controversial incidents involving Ross not least the Sachsgate scandal which was whipped up by the tabloids. The incident involved Ross and fellow comedian Russell Brand leaving “lewd” messages on the actor Andrew Sachs answer machine. The incident sparked a record number of complaints but only AFTER it had been publicised in a tabloid; a vast number of those who complained hadn’t even heard the actual incident!

The BBC have lined up Graham Norton to replace Ross on Radio Two while Claudia Winkleman will take over presenting duties on Film 2010. It’s unclear though whether the BBC intends to keep Friday Night With running under a new host, or hosts, or whether it’ll scrap the Friday evening chat-show all together.
