Jennifer Saunders has promised that the revival of her BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous will still be as good as the original series.
It was revealed earlier this year that Saunders was revived Ab Fab for three new episodes with filming starting last week. The three new episodes include a Christmas Special and then two normal episodes. Actors such as Joanna Lumley, June Whitfield and Julia Sawalha are all expected to return. The revival is to mark the sitcoms 20th anniversary and the one of the new episodes will even see Patsy (Lumley) and Edie (Saunders) mark the 2012 London Olympics in their own unique style.
“Like a good bottle of champagne we hope that we have got better with time. Last week, when we started filming in dear old West London, it was as if nothing had changed. It was raining.” – Jennifer Saunders
Absolutely Fabulous, or Ab Fab as it was dubbed by fans and press alike, originally ran for three seasons between 1992 and 1995 with a two-part special in, The Last Shout, in 1996 to wrap up the sitcom. However, in 2001 Saunders decided to revive the series and it returned for two further seasons and a number of specials ending again in 2005.
Over the years Ab Fab attracted a number of guest-stars such as Richard Curtis, Miranda Richardson, Laurie Metcalf, Kate O’Mara, Eleanor Bron, Robert Lindsay, Elton John, Lulu, Minnie Driver, Kristin Scott Thomas and Whoopi Goldberg.
