Johnny Ball first out of Strictly Come Dancing

TV personality Johnny Ball has become the first celebrity to be eliminated from this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Ball and his professional partner Iveta Lukosiute faced Daybreak TV Critic Richard Arnold and Erin Boag in the dance-off.

Last night’s show saw the 14 couples dance a foxtrot, jive, cha cha cha, Viennese waltz or salsa, with the judge’s scores from week 1 added to the scores this week and amalgamated with viewers’ votes.

Ball and Lukosiute danced the foxtrot to Michael Bublé’s Everything while Arnold and Boag performed a cha cha cha to The B-52′s Love Shack, the two couples each performed their routines for a second time for the dance-off, after which the judges opted to send home Ball and keep Arnold in the competition.

Craig Revel Horwood told the couples: “I would like to save, based on content alone, Richard and Erin.”

Agreeing with Craig, Darcey Bussell said: “For me, it is about the dance content between the two dances, and who gave me the most confidence in them, and for me that is Richard and Erin.”

Bruno Tonioli also chose to keep Arnold in the competition which meant that Ball and Lukosiute – who took over from injured Aliona Vilani – would leave the BBC One show.

Head judge Len Goodman confirmed that he would’ve voted the same way as the other judges.

Ball said of the result: “I think for my age I did quite, quite well. I’m so disappointed I’m leaving, I really, really am.”
