Laurence Fox Confirms Lewis’ End

Laurence Fox has seemingly confirmed the Inspector Morse spin-off series will end soon.

The ITV1 drama stars Kevin Whately as Detective Inspector Robert Lewis – reprising the role from the Inspector Morse series – and Fox as DS James Hathaway. Lewis first launched on ITV1 as a pilot in 2006 and has become a popular fixture of the broadcaster’s schedules attracting millions of viewers per episode. However, all that looks set to change as Fox has confirmed the next series of Lewis will be its last.

“I mean the last for Lewis. Kev and I have decided we want to do other things, otherwise it all gets a bit samey….I mean we could have gone on forever, but…Oh God was I supposed to say that? I have no idea if I’m allowed to tell you it’s ending. Bloody hell, what if I wasn’t?” – Laurence Fox quoted by the Daily Telegraph

Earlier this year Morse creator Colin Dexter told the Radio Times he believed Lewis would soon come to an end “I don’t think Lewis can go on much longer. They’ll probably do be more series”. At the time ITV insisted it was committed to the future of the spin-off.

At the start of the year ITV ordered a series of Morse prequel Endeavour following the successful pilot starring Shaun Evans.
