NBC is on talks to re-commission Law & Order for a 21st and likely final season even though reports over night claimed the veteran crime/legal drama had been cancelled. It was claimed over night that NBC had pulled the plug on the struggling series and that it wouldn’t return for a record 21st series. However, it is now emerging that NBC are keen to bring the series back for a 21st season which would likely be the drama’s last as well. NBC want to top the record set by Gunsmoke for longest running drama in TV history and a 21st season of Law & Order would do that.

However, it seems as though NBC’s talks with Dick Wolf, creator of the franchise, hit problems yesterday which prompted speculation that the show was over. Talks over the future of Law & Order are still going on with the hope of a 21st season order. There’s also a small possibility it may move to cable channel TNT but there’s question marks over whether or not TNT could afford the series. A new spin-off in the franchise, Law & Order: Los Angeles, has recently been ordered by NBC.
