Doctor-Who-DaleksThe Daleks will appear in the Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special.

The BBC has confirmed the Daleks appearance in the anniversary special which will air on 23rd November; exactly 50 years after the first episode of Doctor Who aired. The special will star current regulars Matt Smith & Jenna Coleman alongside David Tennant, Billie Piper, Joanna Page and John Hurt.

The anniversary special will also feature the return of the Zygons; the popular villains only appeared once in the original series alongside Tom Baker, Elisabeth Sladen, Nicholas Courtney and Ian Marter in the 1975 story Terror of the Zygons. Despite their solo appearance the Zygons proved popular with fans and rumours of their return have been circulating for years.

Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s showrunner, said of the Daleks return “The Doctor once said that you can judge a man by the quality of his enemies, so it’s fitting that for this very special episode, he should be facing the greatest enemies of all.”

The Daleks were created by Terry Nation and appeared in the second story of Doctor Who’s first season. The metallic monsters became an instant hit with fans and secured the success of the sci-fi series. The 50th anniversary story won’t be the first time the Daleks have appeared in an anniversary special; a lone Dalek had a cameo appearance in 1983’s twentieth special The Five Doctors.

Meanwhile speculation continues as to whom will replace Matt Smith who will bow out in this year’s Christmas Special.
