Another spin-off is in the works and it looks as though next year’s Autumn season could be full of them – and there’s plenty more time for more spin-offs to be announced yet. Deadline reports that ABC is in the very early stages of developing a Modern Family spin-off.
The spin-off would likely focus on the character of Gil Thorpe (guest star Rob Riggle) who is the nemesis of Phil (Ty Burrell). The news of the spin-off comes in the same week that the fifth season premier of Modern Family drew 11.4 million viewers and it won the Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmy awards on Sunday evening.
The new spin-off is just one of several already in the works by different broadcasters. The CW is eying spin-offs from Supernatural and Arrow while AMC is developing a Walking Dead spin-off. Marvel meanwhile, depending on the success of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is considering an Agent Carter television series spun off from the Captain America movies. CBS is developing another spin-off from NCIS this time set in New Orleans.
This new season will see the launch of several spin-offs including one based in New Orleans. The Originals, spun-off from The Vampire Diaries, will star Joseph Morgan, Claire Holt and Daniel Gillies and is based in the city. Meanwhile NBC is expanding the Chicago Fire world after just one season with Chicago P.D while Once Upon A Time is getting companion series Once Upon A Time in Wonderland.
