Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan are to reprise their roles as Dr William Masters and Virginia Johnson in a second run of drama Masters of Sex.
The series chronicles the relationship between real-life pioneers Dr William Masters and Virginia Johnson – the couple who risked everything and gave birth to the sexual revolution while struggling with their own issues of success, betrayal and jealousy.
The American drama also documents their unusual lives, romance and journey to pop-culture prominence, a process that saw them go from a Midwestern teaching hospital to the cover of Time magazine and TV host Johnny Carson’s couch.
The series is an adaptation of Thomas Maier’s book, Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Love.
The series is currently airing at 9pm on Tuesday nights on Channel 4 in the UK.
American broadcaster Showtime confirmed the return of the production for a second series with executive Davis Nevins stating:
The critical and audience reaction to Masters of Sex since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying. It’s a privilege to get to work with such talented and creative people… as well as their tremendous casts.
