Coronation Street actress Michelle Collins has discussed her stint in BBC One’s long running medical saga Casualty.
Collins who has played Stella Price in Corrie since 2011, signed up for a guest role in the beeb’s weekend medical nasty. She will be starring as Samantha in the BBC drama. The Holby city based hospital will see the arrival of Michelle’s glamorous character in July after she’s injured trying to help rescue a competitive father who suffers a heart attack, following a head-to-head race with his son.
In the Casualty plots it soon becomes clear that Samantha has found something positive from her injury, as she continues to flirt with her knight in shining armour, Paramedic Jeff – played by Matt Bardock – who treated her at the scene. But as the relationship with Jeff blooms, a secret held by Samantha threatens to turn both their worlds upside down.
“I literally was offered that the week before I left Corrie, and I thought ‘go for it’… so I finished Corrie on the Wednesday and I started on Casualty on the Monday – and I dyed my hair red but I didn’t tell them! I just wanted to throw myself into something, I’m a jobbing actress and I’ve had a really great time – I’ve got one more episode left to do.” – Michelle Collins speaking to ITV’s This Morning
On Coronation Street the actress hasn’t ruled out a future return, adding,
“I feel that I’ve done my stint and I can always go back if they’ll have me back – but I need to be back in London… and wanted a bit of a change really.”
Casualty airs on Saturday evenings on BBC One. This Morning, weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
