The cancellation of Sarah Michelle Gellar drama Ringer will have come as no surprise to many. While Ringer debuting on The CW well its ratings didn’t hold and they soon became low – the kind of low which means it was a dead cert for cancellation. The only possible get out clause for Ringer would have been “strong international sales” but Maggie Q drama Nikita used that ‘Get out of jail free card’ to get itself a third season.
However, a little more surprising is The CW’s decision to axe supernatural drama The Secret Circle. The witchy drama was paired with The Vampire Diaries on Thursday evenings as they are both based on novels by L.J Smith and adapted for television by Kevin Williamson. The Secret Circle’s ratings were consistent throughout the series although in the past few weeks they did drop. Never-the-less it was widely seen as a good contender for renewal especially over Nikita and Hart of Dixie, The CW had over ideas though.
The broadcaster picked up five shows to series yesterday meaning it did have to clear room in its schedules and unfortunately for The Secret Circle it was a victim of that.
