Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is to launch Sony Movie Channel this Thursday.

SPT says the new movie channel will offer films from the past three decades and call it a ‘new destination for film fans’. It will launch on Sky channel 323 this Thursday at 5.30pm beginning with the Woody Allen comedy Manhattan Murder Mystery.

“We’re very excited to bring Sony Movie Channel to the UK, where we will be showcasing a wide variety of film genres every day.  We know that audiences love great stories and our schedule of favourite movies will appeal to film fans of all tastes, looking for movie entertainment.” – Kate Marsh, Senior Vice President of Broadcast & Channel Development for Sony Pictures Television

Sony launched Sony Entertainment Television in April 2011. They announced yesterday they are to show BBC spy drama Spooks from the beginning. Sony Entertainment Television is available on Sky and Virgin Media. At present there are no plans to launch the movie channel on Virgin.
