The third and final season of Starz drama Spartacus will premier on the American broadcaster in January.

It was announced over the Summer that the third season of Spartacus would be its last as Starz decided to bring the historical drama to a conclusion. The broadcaster has now revealed that War of the Damned, as the third season is titled, will premier on January 25th at 9pm.

Liam McIntyre will reprise his role of Spartacus; former gladiator turned rebel who leads his army against the might of Rome – and the third season will deal with the Empire’s attempts to crush the rebellion following the demise of Gaius Claudius Glaber (Craig Parker) in the bloodbath that was Spartacus’ second season finale.

The third season will chronicle Marcus Crassus (Simon Merrells) and Julius Ceaser’s (Todd Lasance) battles against Spartacus as they are charged with crushing the slave rebellion. The third season will add a few new faces to the cast following the season two finale which saw a number of cast members killed off – as per the first season finale.

Spartacus: War of the Damned  will return to Starz on January 25th.
