Union J have missed out on a place in The X Factor final.

There was no-sing-off in tonight’s semi-final results show, instead host Dermot O’Leary announced the three acts with the most votes who would go through to the final next weekend.

The band became the ninth act eliminated from the competition after receiving less votes than James Arthur, Christopher Maloney and Jahmene Douglas.

“I’m so happy with how well we’ve done. We’ve got so much to thank The X Factor for.” Union J’s Josh Cuthbert.

The band’s mentor Louis Walsh added: “I’m a little bit disappointed, but they’re going to have an amazing future. They’re the next big boy band!”

Of reaching the final, James Arthur said: “I had a really bad feeling I wasn’t going through. I’m over the  moon, it’s crazy.”

The X Factor final starts next Saturday at 8pm on ITV1.
