Socialist Francois Hollande has been elected the new President of France.

Mr. Hollande beat Nicolas Sarkozy in the second round of Presidential Elections; he is the first socialist leader to be elected in France for a number of years. Part of Hollande’s agenda, on which he was elected, includes hiring thousands of more teachers, raising the minimum wage and lowering the age of retirement for some workers – all policies which won him considerable support.
