“I’m so happy to be working with the incredible Tom Vaughan again, and the talent of this amazing cast make me feel like the luckiest writer around. Press is a series packed full of stories and now we have the very best people to tell them.” – Writer and Executive Producer, Mike Bartlett
It was a bit black without Cilla
Blind Date host Paul O’Grady, 62, who married his ballet dancer partner Andre Portasio, 37, in a secret ceremony at The Goring Hotel in front of 50 guests last month, has spoken about the wedding lacking one of his closest friends. While Lily Savage may have slagged off Surprise Surprise presenter and sixties singing icon Cilla Black, the man behind the drag act, Paul O’Grady, was one of her closest friends.
“She would be over the moon. It was just such a shame she wasn’t there. She wouldn’t have sung. She would never sing in public. If anyone said, ‘Cilla, give us a song’, she’d say, ‘I can’t, me voice is bad, but Paul will’. She wouldn’t get up at a wedding. She never used to sing in the shower or round the house.” – O’Grady speaking to The Mirror.
Andre and Paul have been a couple since 2006, finally marrying in August. In other wedding news EastEnders actress Lacey Turner married partner Matt Kay in a surprise Ibiza ceremony. The 29-year performer met her hubby at the age of 15 at a pals house and had been dating ever since. Co-stars from the beeb saggy soap opera attending the union ceremony included Jake Wood, Scott Maslen, Laurie Brett, Aaron Sidwell, James Bye and former matriarch of the show Barbara Windsor.
Paul O’Grady, who match-makes on Channel 5’s Blind Date recently wed.
TV Highlight of the Week
Good Morning Britain viewers were left stunned during Monday’s show (11th Sept), The Bristol Post reported, after ITV weatherman Alex Beresford ‘stormed the set’ and ‘demanded the camera from anchor Piers Morgan.’ The newspaper added, ‘Bristolian Alex, who presents the weather on the show, interrupted Morgan and co-host Suzanna Reid after their debate on feminism over-ran. The 36-year-old, keen to do the weather forecast, briefly blocked the screen before ordering the camera crew to “come with me” and “stay on camera six”.’ You can see this televisual delight on the Bristol Post story, here.
Not such a grand tour
Aaron Carter said he fears he is HIV positive, speaking on stateside show series The Doctors, the 29-year-old singer who shot to fame as a teenager, said he feared he may have HIV due to becoming so thin. “Because I’m so skinny, I’m still so skinny. And that was the biggest one for me.” The programme assisted his quest for answers by giving the star a series of STD checks, drug tests and scans treatment. At 6 ft tall and weighing just 115 pounds (8 stone 2 pounds), Aaron is 35 pounds underweight for a man of his height. Earlier this year he revealed he was addicted to prescribed drugs following being arrested on a marijuana charge.
Former Celebrity Big Brother star and Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston broke half his entire body after a drunken fall, Digital Spy reported on Tuesday (12th Sept). The performer shared a photo of his injured body sat in a wheelchair in hospital. Pictured alongside girlfriend Emily Smith, he explained to social media fans what had happened; “…I fell off a 2nd floor balcony in Denmark and broke my leg in four places, pelvis, hip, foot, ribs, shoulder blade, punctured a lung and smashed my left hand to pieces…” This gives Preston a new fame at least, he was prior to this only remembered for walking out of Never Mind The Buzzcocks when he didn’t like the tone taken on the show over his then wife, CBB 2006 winner (despite not being famous at the time), Chantelle Houghton.
Diane Abbott used the N-word live on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (14th Sept) as she spoke about the online abuse she’s received. The Labour shadow home secretary, prone to interview gaffs usually due to not knowing her backside from her elbow when it comes to facts and figures, said she has been called a “n—– bitch” by trolls on Twitter. She added “it’s people threatening acid attacks, it’s rape, it’s death threats.” How many of each she didn’t note but maybe it was best she wasn’t asked for any actual figures.
The Only Way Is Essex star – and it doesn’t take much to be one on that show – Gemma Collins is possibly heading back into ITV’s Aussie jungle for I’m A Celebrity, following her previous time on the show lasting just 72 hours. Reports suggest host Declan Donnelly has urged the TOWIE favourite to try her luck for a second time. She quit the series in 2014 due to personal reasons, suggested to be due to a ‘bad’ relationship she was in at that time.
Last week saw Roald Dahl day celebrate the literary personality and, as part of the reflection on the Tales of the Unexpected stars life, a letter was revealed that showed when offering advice to newbie writers Dahl was bluntly to the point. If you can have a ‘blunt point’ as were… ‘Aspiring writer Jay Williams sent the author a letter in 1980 asking for feedback on a short story he had written for an A-Level project’, The Independent newspaper reported, adding, ‘he never expected to get a response – let alone such a blunt one.’ The reply informed Jay that he should stop using so many “beastly adjectives”, and suggested he should study “American short story writers”.
Keeping it classy, Danniella Westbrook insists, The Sun reported, that she didn’t cheat on her fiancé contrary to previous reports she had been spotted ‘snogging a man fifteen times during an all day piss-up’. The 43-year-old, who used to appear in EastEnders – and that alone is enough to send anyone to booze up surely – said the snogging photos, revealed by the tabloid, were just pecks on the cheek. She added that fiancé Alan Thomason is the most perfect man thus she didn’t need to cheat on him in during a alcohol fulled Benidorm bender.
Following on from Roy Croppers exceedingly expensive brie and rocket sandwich, which he was seen to be charging a staggering £4.95 for back in July, Coronation Street viewers were once again left gagging on the cost of something within the soap. It seems Manchester is competing for London prices after a glass of wine, cost £9.50. A glass of wine! It obviously wasn’t on sale in the Rovers Return, but a trendy inner city club.
Roald Dahl, not a fan of beastly adjectives.
Katie Price Weekly
A weekly watch of one of our favorite telly personalities. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Antony Cotton and Roxanne Pallett ATV News turns to the one and only – thank God – Katie Price. What’s our darling of the television screen been up to over the past seven days?
This week Closer magazine brought us the news that Price is ready to get back on the dating scene following her recent ditching of her latest ‘sex addict’ and former porn star hubby, after he was caught bonk-busting their nanny. The mag reports how Katie had proudly announced she was considering trying dating app ‘Huggle’ after recommendations from friends. Has anyone suggested she try putting herself on the cougar.app?
Despite this app search suggestion Closer also note that the ITV Loose Women regular has mooted she would be keen to hook up with some well known men, with a list of names provided.
Former Loose Women star Kerry Katona jokingly blamed the ITV show for ‘ruining’ her marriage to former Westlife singer Bryan McFadden. Speaking on the anniversary show last week the singer noted being on the show had an adverse effect on her private life. Maybe its a sign, spend less time on gossip telly and love will bloom… Not that anyone would want to see less of Price on television of course, she lights up the small screen like a fire in a Lidl.
Loose Women star Price is ready for another man.
Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean and Miranda Richardson join Good Omens
Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean and Miranda Richardson have been confirmed in the cast for Good Omens, the forthcoming six-part television adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The BBC series is also to be co-produced with Amazon.
Whitehall will be playing Newton Pulsifer aka Newt – an unfulfilled wages clerk turned witch-hunter – and McKean will take on the role of Sergeant Shadwell, the leader of the witch-finder army who sends him on his mission. Miranda Richardson will play Madame Tracy, the psychic medium and part-time courtesan who provides a helping hand to the pair as they try to save the world from Armageddon.
As previously announced, Michael Sheen will star as the somewhat fussy angel and rare-book dealer Aziraphale, and David Tennant will play his opposite number, the fast living demon Crowley.
Jack Whitehall, on your box everywhere. Seen here as a regular on Sky 1’s A League of their Own, which returned this week.
It’s been fake news, and its nothing to do with Donald Trump
The Mirror headline screamed ‘Lauren Harries’ ‘toyboy lover’ Connor Yemm reveals their relationship was FAKE as he insists they were never an item.’ This follows several weeks of the pair parading in the newspapers as an apparent couple, and even a TV appearance. It seems to be something that has come straight out of the Katie Price Guide to getting Press Inches and increase your tabloid fame (and possibly money for it).
Lauren and Connor appeared on ITV’s Loose Women to discuss their ‘relationship’ following numerous newspaper items on the pair, however he’s now said his involvement with Lauren isn’t sexual at all and the pair are just ‘best friends’.
The 21-year-old says hes pan-sexual, which lets him love anyone for who they are whether they are gay, straight, bi, transgender or North Korean. Lauren, 40, revealed her ‘relationship’ to The Mirror in July hinting at wild sex sessions which were ‘magnetic’. The pair met on social media.
“Basically I think it’s all been twisted a lot because people are speaking to Lauren and she’s exclusively revealing things, like obviously the pictures that are out there. I mean I’m pansexual and I’m polyamorous in a way, but Lauren’s a beautiful woman inside and out so there’s no denies there about me giving her a kiss or anything because she’s such a good friend and such a good laugh, but it’s just the truth I want to get out there because people think I’m in a relationship when I’m not.” – Connor speaking to The Mirror
Twisted? Or maybe just one very good publicity exercise, lets face it we all know his name now – well for the next week or so anyway.
“I’ve been in extra work, such as Harry Potter, Casualty, quite a few things. I don’t need fame at the end of the day.” – Connor speaking to The Mirror
