The ‘famous’ for being on YouTube contestant has left the jungle after negative press reports.
The 2017 jungle faces – some famous – most famous through association
“Due to circumstances outside camp Jack has had to withdraw from the show.” – ITV spokesperson
YouTuber Jack Maynard has, reports suggest, ‘left’ the ITV series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! of his own accord to ‘defend himself’ following tabloid reports concerning previous online comments which have been deemed ‘inappropriate’. His departure was mutually agreed by production company ITV Studios, broadcaster ITV and representatives for the social media and video blogging ‘star’. The Sun newspaper ran with the news he had posted a series of dubious tweets alleged to contain racist and homophobic content.
Jack Maynard was the first none-traditional ‘celebrity’ to appear on the show, although many Z-list stars have appeared over the years, the series has also seen its fair share of ‘famous for being friends or relations of someone who is a real personality’ – and this year is no exception. He was, according to the original ITV press publicity, hoping to be in the I’m A Celebrity history books as its first ever YouTube vlogger to venture into the jungle, however now it seems he’s departed in tabloid disgrace.
‘Readily admitting he is chuffed to bits to have been picked ahead of so many other rival vloggers to go in the famous ITV Jungle, the 22 year old Internet sensation says he hopes to do the social media world proud’ the ITV publicity noted last week.
“We are the most famous people you’ve never heard of.. One of the main reasons I am definitely doing it is to be the first YouTuber to go on a show that is so massive in this country. That is quite amazing. You can’t get anything more high profile than this and it’s going to lead to so many other great opportunities. I can’t wait to find out what!” – Jack Maynard speaking last week
The high profile ITV show saw reporters instantly digging into the 2017 contestants background, including their previous social media posts and comments, which Maynard is reported to be ‘ashamed’ of. In the programme, fronted by Ant and Dec, the Youtuber appeared during Tuesday evenings programme, however the hosts noted that he had departed the jungle during the days proceedings.
A statement from his PR representatives note that Maynard left the series to ‘defend his position’, however admitted the social media posts reported by The Sun were completely ‘unacceptable’.
“In the last few days Jack Maynard has been the subject of a succession of media stories which, given his position as a contestant on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! – filmed in the Australian jungle, with no contact with the outside world, he has been unable to respond to. Since it is only fair that everyone should be aware of any allegations made against them and should also have the right to defend themselves, it was agreed that it would be better to bring him out of the show.” – Statement from Jack Maynard’s PR.
‘The 22-year-old has more than 1.2m subscribers to his YouTube channel and is the younger brother of singer Conor Maynard’ BBC News reported. It had previously been revealed nude images of Maynard had leaked online, the full frontal shots left nothing to Twitter users imaginations.
