Channel 5 is to bring the new series of U.S sitcom Will & Grace to British TV screens.
Will & Grace originally concluded its run after eight seasons in 2006, but was revived by NBC earlier this year. The show originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK, however the rights this time round have been snapped up by Channel 5 who will debut the series in a 10pm slot on Friday 5th January 2018.
The principal cast of Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes have reprised their roles as Will Truman, Grace Adler, Karen Walker and Jack McFarland. Season 9 consists of 16 episodes (upped from an initial planned 8) while a 13 episode tenth series has been greenlit for next year.
“Will & Grace is one of the greatest comedy shows of our time, so we’re thrilled to see it return to TV screens. With the hugely talented cast reprising their roles and tackling the issues of today with their razor-sharp wit, Will & Grace will become ‘must-see’ television in 2018. This deal follows the confirmation that The X-Files will return in early 2018, demonstrating our appetite for the best content across the world.” – Katie Keenan, VP, Acquisitions, Channel 5 and VIMN UK
Viewers were first introduced to best friends Will, a gay lawyer, and Grace, a straight interior designer in September 1998. Will & Grace garnered 16 Emmy® wins and 83 nominations throughout its original run.
