The movie features specially commissioned collaborations and archive tracks from Dolly Parton.
Netflix has acquired the film Dumplin’, which features collaborations and original music from entertainment industry icon Dolly Parton. The film follows the life of the plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.
Danielle Macdonald, Jennifer Aniston, Odeya Rush, Dove Cameron, Harold Perrineau, Bex Taylor-Klaus and Ginger Minj lead the cast while Grammy & Emmy Award Winner and Academy, Golden Globe & Tony Award Nominee Dolly Parton brings the soundtrack to the movie with newly-recorded collaborations of her classic songs in addition to six new original songs co-written by Parton and Linda Perry.
Special guest vocalists for the soundtrack include Sia, Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Danielle Macdonald, and Jennifer Aniston. The film will be released later this year on Netflix stateside and select international territories. In the USA the movie will also be screened in selected cinema outlets.
As well as a successful pop and country music career Dolly Parton has also made several appearances in big screen productions, her most famous as office worker Doralee Rhodes in 20th Century Fox’s 9 to 5 as well as Truvy Jones in Paramount Pictures’ Steel Magnolias and more recently an appearance as G.G. Sparrow in Warner Bros’ Joyful Noise.
