The Casualty star became the tenth celebrity to leave the competition this weekend.
Charles and his professional partner Karen Clifton and former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and her professional partner Pasha Kovalev found themselves in the dance off after the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes.
Both couples performed their musical-inspired routines again before the judges decided their fate, Charles and Karen did their Rumba to Maria from West Side Story, while Ashley and Pasha performed a Quickstep to Don’t Rain On My Parade from Funny Girl.
Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Ashley and Pasha as he considered their dance to be the more “solid and technically demanding” of the two; Dame Darcey Bussell preferred Ashley and Pasha’s “pure complexity and brilliance”, while Bruno Tonioli said he was saving Ashley and Pasha because their dance was “more accomplished, more complicated”.
Head Judge Shirley Ballas said that she would also have saved Ashley and Pasha.
“I have to thank my family for all of their support because without them I don’t know if I’d have got through half of this. I have to pay extreme homage to this woman here because Karen Clifton turned me into a promising dancer. The most memorable moments for me would have to be the street dance because that was the first time anything like that had ever been done on the show, and of course the Samba – that was one of my highest scores.
“I am so thankful and appreciative of this opportunity. I’ve learnt so much about myself. I now know I can do a bit of ballroom and Salsa. Thank you to the voters and thank you judges because you guys saved our butts a couple of times.” – Charles Venn
Karen added of Charles: “You have been the most humble, the most professional person who I’ve ever worked with. Thank you for always respecting me as a woman, as a friend and as a teacher, and I will never forget this journey.”
Tonight’s results show saw a musical performance by Adam Lambert singing ‘We Will Rock You’. The remaining five couples will take to the dancefloor again on Saturday 8th December at 6.35pm on BBC One.
