TikTok Celebrates Creativity and Self-Expression in ‘Year in Rewind’ Compilation.
Cute Animals are on TikTok’s rewind of 2018.
Earlier this week TikTok revealed its Year in Rewind, celebrating the creators and unique video content that turned it into the fastest growing social media app of 2018. TikTok looked at the top outrageous, buzzworthy and epic short-form videos from 15 different categories, including Most Droolworthy Food Videos, Cutest Animals, Hottest Dance Moves, Top Travel Destinations, and more. The varied categories speak to the diversity of content available on TigTong, where everyone is invited to be a creator and to share what is most meaningful to them.
Featured on the Year in Rewind page is a teaser for TikTok’s ultimate 2018 recap, a compilation video highlighting the most viral content and top creators. The video appears exclusively on the @tiktok profile on the platform.
To further recap the year, creators can now see an updated platform thanks to the newly launched ‘personalised feature’ which shows individual users their most memorable moments of the year, providing a look back on how they’ve engaged with their community, pursued their passions, and let their creativity shine throughout 2018.
While famous faces such as Jimmy Fallon and Cardi B have made headlines on the TikTok in recent months, those topping the Most Popular Celebrity list include American social media personality Baby Ariel, with almost 10 million followers on TikTok, music producer and DJ Marshmello, and K-pop chart-toppers WINNER and BLACKPINK.
Homegrown British social media maven Holly H holds a spot in the Most Popular Creators list, alongside content producer Gil Croes and choreographer Awez Darbar, while the Most Popular Soundtrack spot has been snapped up by Havana (feat. Young Thug) by Camila Cabello.
Among the diverse array of creative content, TikTok’s challenges provide some of its most engaged activity, with users across the world participating in local conversations in their communities. The global phenomenon of #LemonsForLeukemia scored Most Popular Challenge, while the #RainDropChallenge also made waves in the Top Ten, thanks to an interactive filter allowing users to ‘control the rain’ – just one example of TikTok’s unique in-app editing tools and filters.
“In 2018, TikTok reached some incredible milestones, including becoming one of Google Play’s best apps of the year, and the number one downloaded app in the U.S. on both the Apple and Android App Stores in October. “We are proud to close 2018 by highlighting the wide range of creative people in our community, who have helped make TikTok what it is – a home for creativity and self-expression.” – Stefan Heinrich, Head of Global Marketing at TikTok
