On Friday, March 15, Idris Elba comes to Netflix in new comedy series Turn Up Charlie.
Elba takes on the titular role of Charlie, a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, who is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a ‘manny’ to his famous pal’s problem-child daughter, Gabby (Frankie Hervey).
Piper Perabo and JJ Field co-star while Angela Griffin, Guz Khan, Jocelyn Jee Esein, Jade Anouka, Cameron King and Dustin Demri-Burns round out the cast as recurring guest stars.
The series was perhaps inspired by the Luther star’s real-life DJ-ing which, despite being a long-term side-line, many only found out about last week when he was announced as part of the Coachella 2019 line-up.
Elba and Gary Reich co-created Turn Up Charlie and will serve as executive producers along with Tristram Shapeero. The series is co-produced by Reich’s Brown Eyed Boy Productions and Elba’s Green Door Pictures.
