Iain Morris and Damon Beesley to create six part comedy for the Beeb.

“Having Iain and Damon back together on a new scripted piece is about as good as it gets in comedy. Their take on what happens off the pitch brims with their skill at creating a gang of instantly recognisable characters, memorable dialogue and deftly tuned plots – excruciating humiliation is never far away.” – Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy

BBC Two has commissioned Afternoons a six-part series from The Inbetweeners co-creators, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley. The Beeb show follows the mostly off-the-pitch misadventures of three young football players from a fictional Premier League team. The stories focus on their friendship: these boys from around the world are far less proficient with women, money and social media than they are at scoring goals.

The series is written by duo Morris and Beesley are writing together for the first time since the massive success of Channel 4’s The Inbetweeners series and later films.

The Inbetweeners revolved around school pals Will, played by Simon Bird, Jay portrayed by James Buckley, Simon actor Joe Thomas and Neil played by Blake Harrison. Episodes followed their adventures and misadventures as they attempted to figure out adolescence, school life, horrid teachers, women, boozing and sex.

The series marked its 10th anniversary since the first episode last year with a two-hour special on Channel 4, Fwends Reunite.

“We’re very excited to be collaborating with Iain and Damon on this new series. It’s a cracking show that will delight audiences around the world, and promises to be a global hit.” – Jonathan Blyth, BBC Studios Director of Comedy
