ITV this week revealed another primetime game show, Rolling In It.
Stephen hosts Catchphrase, produced by STV, for ITV.
“The combination of Stephen, giant coins being rolled down the conveyor belt by celebrities and contestants hoping to win big, made for a pilot that was packed to the rafters with tension and laughs. The decision to go for a series was easy.” – Head of ITV Entertainment Commissioning, Siobhan Greene
The only game show that can be played from anywhere in the country
Catchphrase host Stephen Mulhern is to front a third game show for ITV with a game of chance bringing three contestants play alongside some of their favourite celebrities in a bid to go home with a big cash prize. But they’ll need to have luck on their side because everything could change at the roll of a coin.
Three teams – made up of the player and their celebrity partner – have to roll a coin down a moving conveyor belt towards slots which are labelled with large cash sums to win, though also ‘Bankrupt’ slots which mean the player loses everything. As the game progresses, the money values get larger, and as a result, so do the penalties. In this game of luck and fierce competition, the roll of one final coin could determine whether the contestant loses everything or goes home ‘Rolling In It.’
In for a Penny began on Saturday Night Takeaway, which Stephen is a regular.
Everything could change at the roll of a coin
This week ITV also announced that Stephen was to host In For A Penny, a format spun-out of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. the format sees Stephen challenge members of the British public to turn their pennies into pounds. Stephen travels the length and breadth of the UK inviting the unsuspecting British public to take part in a host of hilarious and often silly games to win a cash prize.
The only game show that can be played from anywhere in the country, Stephen, along with his gold sparkly jacket and portable game show props, can pop up anywhere from petrol stations to shopping centres, surprising people and randomly selecting whoever he can find to take part in games such as Pump It Up, Mum’s The Word and the popular In For A Penny. Mulhern also hosts the annual Emmerdale V Coronation Street soap game show special, The Big Quiz.
“It was always a highlight for us to watch this segment on Saturday Night Takeaway and we are delighted it’s now become a series. Stephen is the perfect host, his warmth, wit and all-round humour mixed with the great British public, who are not only brilliant but are also unfazed when a man in a sparkly jacket appears and asks them to take part in ridiculous games! It makes for some fantastically funny TV.” – Ant & Dec (co-creators of the format)
