“There were only fifteen boys on my drama course at Manchester Uni, and I’ll be the third to appear in EastEnders – so I feel it’s a kind of tradition! The other two being Tom Watt (Lofty Holloway) and Paul Bradley (Nigel Bates)” – Adrian Edmondson
Adrian is, despite a number of serious roles, best-known for his comedy work alongside the late Rik Mayall in shows such as Channel 4’s The Tube, BBC Two’s The Young Ones and, later, Bottom. The pair met at Manchester University and along with several others including Ben Elton, Dawn French, Alexei Sayle and wife Jennifer Saunders were pioneers of the ‘alternative comedy’ movement of the early 1980s.

Despite his comedic background Adrian has taken on more diverse roles in recent years including numerous television dramas such as BBC One’s Holby City, ITV’s Bancroft and BBC One’s War and Peace.
Turning his attentions to EastEnders Adrian will play the charming Daniel who the Beeb describe as having ‘a wicked sense of humour’. Something he’ll certainly need living in Walford, Daniel will be seen by viewers to the BBC One saga as the perfect antidote for Jean as she continues her treatment for ovarian cancer.
At first, Jean is unsure about Daniel but as he offers his support in his own unique way, Jean warms to him and the pair strike up a bond. Adrian has started filming with his first appearance airing later this summer.
“Adrian’s a phenomenal talent who will bring his unique blend of intelligence, warmth and humour to the role of Daniel. We’re all over the moon he’s coming to Walford and can’t wait for this love story to hit screens later this year.” – Jon Sen, Executive Producer, EastEnders
