Myar Craig-Brown joins Gaumont UK

Gaumont, the world’s oldest film company, made a creative announcement this week.

London-based Gaumont UK, part of Gaumont, the world’s oldest film company and leading global production company, this week bolstered its team through the appointment of Myar Craig-Brown as Creative Director, to oversee their growing slate of drama for the global market.  Myar Craig-Brown joins Gaumont UK from Wall to Wall, effective immediately.  She reports directly to executive producer Alison Jackson who helms Gaumont’s UK division.

“Gaumont is such a fantastic creative, global company, and trailblazers in scripted entertainment.  Both Alison and Gaumont share in my sensibility to create world-class entertaining drama that showcases and uncovers untold stories.  Having grown up in Singapore with a dual heritage, those ‘other’ or unknown stories are especially important to me.  The opportunity to join the team to develop a slate of culturally rich stories that reflect different voices is incredibly exciting.”

– Myar Craig-Brown

Through her stewardship as Creative Director, Craig-Brown will build upon and drive Gaumont UK’s slate of compelling drama to appeal to the global market. With the experience of working across a myriad of dramas, including Vera, New Tricks and A Mother’s Son, Craig-Brown has established a solid roster of relationships with commissioners, on-screen talent, and a mixture of established and new writers. Building on this, Craig-Brown is enthusiastic about finding culturally rich and unheard voices enabling writers the freedom to tell their stories, which aligns with Gaumont’s mission to showcase underrepresented stories through distinct and entertaining drama.

From the 1930s to the 1970s Gaumont Cinemas were a feature of the UK high street.

Prior to joining Gaumont, Myar Craig-Brown was Executive Producer for Drama at Wall to Wall. Through her five-year tenure at the production company, she brought in and developed new shows for their expansive slate, including two major DC titles.  Previously, as Head of Drama at Warner Bros’ Headstrong Pictures, she executive produced series 12 of the hit BBC drama New Tricks, and during her run at ITV Studios, she executive produced long-running ITV hit drama Vera, A Mother’s Son, Just Henry and The Psychopath Next Door.

Craig-Brown started her career in continuing drama, script editing on a variety of titles including Family Affairs, Doctors and Holby City – the latter of which she went on to series produce.

“Myar is a fantastic addition to our team.  She has an incredible track record of producing thought-provoking and engaging drama, and her relationships within the industry coupled with our network will help Gaumont UK continue to grow and produce exceptional drama that makes an impact. Her vision aligns with ours to champion lesser-known stories, and it’s a collaboration I’m keen to get started with.”

-Alison Jackson, Gaumont UK CEO and executive producer

Craig-Brown’s appointment marks an expansion to Gaumont’s growing London-based division.  Gaumont UK has multiple projects in development with a mixture of broadcasters and streamers, and recently announced the developments of two new drama adaptations, Sixteen Horses and Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue Editor Extraordinaire from the Blitz to the Swinging Sixties, to its diverse slate of original content.
