The BBC has announced it has no plans to film further episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures following the death of Elisabeth Sladen.
The Doctor Who spin-off has so far run to four seasons and a fifth season had been commissioned by the BBC. Filming had taken place on three stories, over six episodes, of the fifth series before production went into hiatus.
Production was due to restart on The Sarah Jane Adventures this Spring but following the death of lead actress Elisabeth Sladen the BBC has announced it will not film any further episodes.
Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed. – BBC statement
Tabloid newspaper The Sun had claimed today the BBC were seeking to continue the popular Doctor Who spin-off replacing Sarah Jane with a new character. However, its doubtful whether the shows fans would have accepted that idea.
