The CW Undecided On Fates Of 90210, Nikita and Hart of Dixie

The CW is undecided on the fates of drama’s 90210, Nikita and Hart of Dixie.

The network’s president Mark Pedowitz stated at the Television Critic’s Association winter tour in Pasadena, on Sunday, that no decisions had yet been made on the futures of the three shows. None of them have been renewed as yet but that doesn’t necessarily mean The CW is planning to axe all three.

However, if any of the shows were to be axed Pedowitz is a supporter of ‘giving fans a very satisfactory conclusion…It’s something that we as a television industry need to do’. That could mean a final season order for 90210 which is widely seen as a strong possibility.

The CW has previously handed final season orders to Smallville, One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl in order to allow producers to craft satisfying finales and tie up as many loose ends as possible. For that reason, many experts have predicted that 90210 will be renewed for a shortened final season.

Although Nikita is a low rated drama and has been tipped for cancellation for some time the fact it is near the number of episodes needed to put the drama, starring Maggie Q, into syndication – and thereby recouping some of the costs – could mean a fourth season renewal. Hart of Dixie is the drama most likely, out of the three, to be axed by The CW at the conclusion of its second season.

As for Supernatural, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, Pedowitz is happy with the creative direction the show has taken under new showrunner Jeremy Carver.

“We are pleased with how Wednesday night has worked out with Arrow and Supernatural. Creatively, the show is in a great place. There’s always a good shot it could return.” Pedowitz told reporters.

The only two CW shows with any real certainty of being renewed are The Vampire Diaries and hit new drama Arrow starring Stephen Amell. Midseason shows The Carrie Diaries and Cult have yet to launch while Emily Owens M.D has already been cancelled. Beauty and the Beast meanwhile is averaging similar ratings to The Secret Circle which was surprisingly cancelled by the network last year.
