A former Coronation Street actress has passed away at the age of 41.

SophiyaSoapworld: Betty and Poppy, Corrie Haque, who played Rovers barmaid Poppy Morales (pictured right with the late Betty Driver) in the soap between 2008 and 2009, died at a London hospital earlier today.

She had been undergoing tests following a cancer diagnosis and reportedly passed away after developing a clot on her lungs.

“We are saddened to hear the terrible news of Sophiya’s death. She was a vibrant and beautiful actress who was a pleasure to have around during her time on Coronation Street. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time.” – Corrie spokesperson

Poppy arrived in the soap as the Rover’s 51st barmaid, before later taking on the role of assistant manager. She caused a stir when she sacked Betty Williams and was later kicked out herself by Steve (Simon Gregson) and Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly).

Soapworld: Poppy and Becky, CorrieHaque had been appearing in a West End production of Privates on Parade before she fell ill prior to Christmas.
