Association of Motion Picture Sound announces winners of the AMPS 2024 Awards

The annual awards celebrate TV Drama, Factual Films and Audio Products…

The Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS), the UK-based craft guild made up of over 540 of the most imaginative and highly experienced creative talents working in the field of sound for film, television, and games, has today announced the winners of its 11TH Annual AMPS Awards for Television Drama, Factual Film and Audio Products.

AMPS Chair Andrew Wilson:

“Congratulations to our 2024 Awards winners. Each year it is incredibly competitive, and this year is no exception with our nominees and winners demonstrating a vast breath of intricate sound design work. We are delighted to be able to celebrate their work with our AMPS members at our annual Awards event at the University of Greenwich, while supporting AMPS chosen charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People through our annual raffle.”

The winners are:

Disney+’s THE BEAR for Excellence in Sound for a Television Drama, for Series 2, Episode 6 “Fishes”.  Scott D Smith, Evan Benjamin, Steve “Major” Giammaria, and Andrea Bella are awarded. Nominees were Succession (HBO/ Sky), The Last of US (HBO/ Sky), The Bear (Disney+), The Crown (Netflix).

Netflix’s THE DEEPEST BREATH picked up Excellence in Sound for a Factual Film. Greg Gettens, Will Chapman, Chad Orororo and Adam Prescod are awarded. Nominees were The Deepest Breath (Netflix), If These Walls Could Sing (Disney+), Inside Our Autistic Minds (BBC Two), Life on Our Planet (Netflix), Secrets of the Elephants (National Geographic/ Disney+).

 RADIUS WINDSHIELDS for RADIUS RAD-1 is awarded excellence in a Production Hardware or Software Audio Product.

INTROSPECTER for KRAKEN DIALOGUE EDITORS’ TOOLKIT – VERSION 3 is awarded excellence in a Post-Production Hardware or Software Audio Product.

Sound Production Mixer Chris Munro AMPS was awarded the AMPS FELLOWSHIP AWARD for his Outstanding Contribution to Film, the Sound Community, and to AMPS, of which he is a founding member. Chris is a multiple award winner, with credits including Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, Captain Phillips, and Black Hawk Down and Gravity – for which he won two Academy Awards.

HBO/ Sky, Netflix and Disney+ led with three nominations each, with BBC Two recognised in one category. The two categories representing PRODUCT EXCELLENCE featured a wide range of nominations covering most aspects of the modern film sound workflow, indicating the ever-growing complexity of the technology supporting the creative processes. The prestigious AMPS trophies are awarded annually, with the winner’s reception taking place at The University of Greenwich on Sunday 7th April, with the winners receiving a trophy. In their annual awards AMPS recognise multiple facets of the Sound industry. Alongside Supervising Crew members, AMPS honours Key 1st Assistant Sound/Boom Operators and Supervising Dialogue/ADR Editors.

In its 11th year, sponsors of the AMPS Awards are DOLBY LABORATORIES, PINEWOOD GROUP, SENNHEISER and BUBBLEBEE INDUSTRIES. AMPS chosen charity is Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, which it raises funds for through a raffle and selling merchandise at the awards event. This year included raffle donations from Radius, Cleanfeed, Ursa Straps, NuGen Audio, Raycom, Wisycom, Bubblebee Industries, Rycote, SoundRadix, University of Greenwich and Deity.

The UK-based Craft Guild is made up of over 540 award-winning creative talents working in the fields of sound for Film, TV, and Games. The announcement of the winners contributes to the ongoing legacy of AMPS Awards, marking another milestone in recognising outstanding achievements in film sound.

AMPS Awards is dedicated to advancing its mission of celebrating excellence in sound and fostering the growth of the next generation and welcomes collaborations to enhance these objectives.
