Miranda Hart dismisses Doctor Who rumours

Following the departure of Matt Smith as The Doctor a number of names have been thrown around like confetti as to who could play the Time Lord come 2014.

One such tossed about was that of comedian Miranda Hart, who this week laughed off the rumours she could become the first woman to play the lead in Doctor Who.

The 40-year-old Call the Midwife actress had in the week since Smith announced he was quitting the iconic role been voted in one poll as some fans’ choice to become the 12th Time Lord on Doctor Who.

“Really? Who, me? Are you serious? That’s hilarious!” She told Heat Magazine, adding, “I didn’t watch it when I was younger – it scared me. I started watching some Doctor Who recently on my own and got too scared. I had to watch it in the daytime – I’m pathetic. I might be alright if I’m in it, though, and I don’t have to watch it.”

Other names mooted include Helen Mirren, David Harewood, Dan Stevens, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Morgan, Daniel Radcliffe, Dominic Cooper and Hugh Laurie.

Matt Smith will appear for the last time as the 11th doctor in the Doctor Who 2013 Christmas special. There is also a special one-off 50th anniversary celebratory episode due to air in November.
