Fox News sued over live suicide broadcast

Fox-News-MediumThree children are to sue Fox News after footage of their father committing suicide was screened live.

JoDon Romero was being pursued by police on 28th September last year after an alleged carjacking. Fox News covered the dramatic chase live, a common practise on television in America.

Fox News took the footage live without the standard delay which is usually self imposed by broadcasters. Viewers watched as Romero got out of his vehicle and shot himself in the head.

The lawsuit states that two of the three children had been made aware of the footage while at school and then searched for it on YouTube. The children’s’ mother is also suing but it is unclear how much damages they want to receive.

Fox News apologised on-air and in a statement following the broadcast.
