CNN is to bring back its political debate programme Crossfire this autumn.
The cable news network has announced Crossfire will return with four new presenters. Crossfire had been a fixture of CNN from 1982 until 2005. CNN has been undergoing a transformation over the past year since new boss Jeff Zucker arrived in November 2012.
Hosting from the right will be former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and conservative columnist S.E. Cupp, with President Obama’s deputy campaign manager in 2012, Stephanie Cutter and author Van Jones hosting from the left.
“Few programs in the history of CNN have had the kind of impact on political discourse that Crossfire did – it was a terrific program then, and we believe the time is right to bring it back and do it again.” – Jeff Zucker, President of CNN Worldwide
Zucker launched new breakfast show New Day, anchored by Chris Cuomo and Kate Boulduan, last week. It forms part of a strategy by Zucker to bring back viewers who deserted CNN over the years for its rivals MSNBC and Fox News.
